July in the Garden

This is my favorite time of year.  While spring, when the seedlings pop up, is affirming and fall, when the harvest is in earnest, is satisfying, during the height of summer it’s the perfect combination.  The plants are starting to fruit, although you aren’t overwhelmed with veggies (and what to do with them) just yet.

Going up to look at the plants every day you can see noticeable changes in flowering.  Almost everything is in bloom, except a few plants like the eggplant above which are developing delicious vegetables.

tomatoOur little watermelon plants are blooming so hopefully we will have some watermelons by the end of summer.  We do have some things ready to eat, although mostly just varieties of lettuce at this point.  We are certainly ready to start eating the fruits of our labors!
