Did you know you can make your own jalapeño poppers with the fresh peppers straight from your garden? It is easy and makes a delicious spicy snack.
What You’ll Need:
1 cup of softened cream cheese
3/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
5-7 jalapeño peppers, sliced into bite sized pieces
3/4 cup of milk
3/4 cup of flour
3/4 cup of bread crumbs
8 cups of frying oil
You can add a pinch of additional spices such as oregano or red pepper of desired
In a large bowl, mix together the cream cheese and cheddar cheese until they are thoroughly combined.
Take a slice of jalapeño in your hand and cover it in the cream cheese and cheddar mixture. It should be completely coated with no pepper poking through. Repeat this process with all of the jalapeño slices.
Lay out three bowls with the milk, flour, and bread crumbs. Dip your coated jalapeño in the milk and then the flour. Make sure they are thoroughly coated at each step. Next, dip back into the milk and finally into the bread crumbs.
Heat your oil in a medium skillet until it is ready for frying – you can check this by putting the handle of a wooden spoon in the oil and if the oil bubbles around the stick, it is ready. Deep fry the poppers for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and dry on paper towels.
Enjoy – but beware, they are spicy!
